Enjoy.

Ladies and Gentlemen, Joey Adams

Tuesday, May 8th, 2007

Travesty Films was delighted to work with Rosie Adams on its latest 48 Hour Film Project endeavor, Mr. Comedy. Ms. Adams is, of course, the granddaughter of the legendary funnyman Joey Adams.

Joey Adams was, as his 69-cent Globe Mini Mag (available at finer grocery checkout counters everywhere) states, “America’s Good-Will Ambassador.” Further, the “world-renowned comedian, toastmaster and star of nightclubs, television, radio, motion pictures, and the legitimate theatre holds a Doctor of Comedy degrees from his Alma Mater City College of New York, Columbia University and New York University.”

Herewith, are some of Joey Adams’ rib-tickling knee-slappers. We hope you enjoy them as much as we enjoyed transcribing them.

“I went to a social at a Senior Citizens club. It was the first time I drank a martini with a prune in it.”

“I don’t like those wild disco dancers. I like slow dancing — when I’m dancing with a girl, I like to know what I’m up against.”

“Every time we hear a disc jockey play the top 40 tunes, we get the shakes thinking what the bottom 40 must sound like.”

“Some conservation groups are fighting to preserve old buildings in their original form — I know a landlord who’s been doing that for years.”

“A pessimist is a man who feels all women are bad. An optimist hopes so.”

“I don’t care who claims it, it was Dolly Parton who said, ‘It’s what’s up front that counts.’”

“Zsa Zsa Gabor is a great housekeeper — every time she gets divorced she keeps the house.”

“President Carter said the American dollar is stable — and you know what’s found in stables.”
